LISBON

What’s up guys?

I spent a weekend in Lisbon last week (I’ve actually been there a day before for a job and decided to stay 2 more days).

I am half Portuguese and I know Lisbon well because I’ve spent several times there when I was a child (my grandparents live about 20 kms south) so we came almost every summer. I’m just in love with this city! And the more years pass, more I love spending a few days there. The economy of the country is much better, the tourists are always here and the Portuguese are adorable (in all objectivity I promise!). The city is clean, life is not too expensive and most of the locals speak English! And that’s a must when you travel. Being able to make you understand and understand what is happening is so enjoyable. WELL!

I prepared a little cityguide LISBON (really small because we stayed a big day and a half):

OU SE POSER? WHERE TO TAKE A COFFEE?

One of the most famous spots in Belem, you can spend some time in lines but you can buy one of the best Pasteis de Nata of Lisbon. You can also just come for a coffee 🙂

A small place that I knew from before. Good snacks and sandwiches and all type of drinks to spend a good time.
  • PASTELARIA BATALHA – CAMOES
  • CHOCO & MOUSSE

QUE VOIR ABSOLUMENT? WHAT TO SEE?

Go for a walk in this neighborhood of Lisbon a little out of the way but so cute! You can visit the chapel, the Belem Tower at the edge of the water and getting lost in the colorful and typical Portuguese streets.

Looks a bit like Belem, but this neighborhood in the heights of Lisbon is a must. You can take the tram to get there (or walk for the brave), and frankly you can easily spend the day there. Visit the Chateau Saint Georges, eat at Chapito A Mesa (see below), then walk through the cobblestone and colorful streets. Enjoy an ice cream in the dozens of local glaciers until sunset. I advise you to find the mirador which is the best point of view on Alfama. That of the belvedere of Santa Luzia (Miradouro de Santa Luzia). From there, the view of the tiled roofs of Alfama and the Tagus Estuary is simply breathtaking. The viewpoint is near the castle and located on the tram line 28.

This is the most important place in Lisbon. It was built on the site of the Royal Palace which was destroyed by the big earthquake of 1755. You can also see the Arco da Rua Augusta, which is the starting point of the most important street of La Baixa and the equestrian statue of King Joseph I.

A long street that starts from the Comercio Plaza to go up to the north and the Rossio Square (and the big Theatro). You will find local merchants and most major retailers. Perfect for a shopping moment (you can also have a coffee at the Fabrica de Nata (Augusta street).

OU MANGER? WHERE TO EAT?

A very local restaurant but gourmet when we had diner the first night. You will enjoy typical meals (as sea foods, Bacalao et good meats) and you will taste also deserts (but if you want a Pasteis, you will have to walk and find one of the coffee that sells some around there).
On a adoré!
A little paradise in Alfama, the best is to book in advance or to come really early because it’s high season.. You can have lunch en terasse and enjoy grilled food and salads. If you are lucky like us, you will eat with a panoramic sea view. Beautiful!
A very small restaurant (still in the corner of Chateau Saint Georges), there are only 12 people (it’s tiny but you eat well). I do not know if we can book in advance but otherwise you need to be patient to have a table (especially if you are more than two!).
Enjoy a day at the beach if you can. Take a ferry or a taxi to drive there and ENJOY!

    Hi Nicolas,

It must be very nice to take a trip like this and go back to your childhood. I’ve seen some amazing spots on the pictures. Further it’s amazing that a place like Lisbon is not that far away for European people. Beside’s that it’s handy when local people there can speak English, that make’s it for tourism a little bit better.
